What's your deepest fear? Do you ever talk to someone who feels the same?
Social media seems to be making us more fake: Facebook has become a highlight reel, Instagram a poser’s paradise, LinkedIn is awash with CEOs – there are even apps to add a six-pack to your gym selfies.
In a world where everyone seems intent on faking it, I wondered what real conversations would look like.
As some of you know, I’ve been experimenting with my ‘confessions’ podcast. I’ve also been running an exercise for groups where they share their fears anonymously, then take turns to read them out.
It’s been one of the most powerful learning experiences. What do they learn? Leaders learn that other leaders - who seem to have it together - also feel like impostors. People learn that however different we may seem, we still care about family and about failure…
Our world may be more divided than ever, but in the words of Shakespeare: “If you prick us, do we not bleed?”
